EPS Panels

As of February 2024 SuperSIPs have started manufacturing of an EPS (Expanded Polystyrene SIP) panel, these are a fabulous, affordable option for Garden Rooms, Garages and Workshops.

Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) panels do not require testing in the same manner as our PU panels as they are not used in habitable spaces.

EPS Strength

The Adhesion rate of our EPS panels is approximately 60-65% between the OSB3 and the insulation. This means that the EPS panels will have more than enough strength for your garden room project.

Our EPS panels are also joined together with the same strength connecting timber splines as our PU panels, so there is no difference in the building processes between PU and EPS panels.

The EPS insulation used within our panels has a high strength to weight ratio. The strength of our EPS insulation can be found in the table below:

Compressive strength @ 10% compression (kPa)

70

Compressive strength @ 1% nominal strain (kPa)

Thermal Performance

The U value of EPS panels are slightly lower than our comparative PU panels, however, for a more affordable alternative to premium PU panels, this can be an acceptable trade-off for a lower priced garden room/Studio.

The U values of SuperSIP’s EPS panels and comparable PU panels can be found in the table below:

0.28 W/m2K

0.38 W/m2K

0.17 W/m2K

0.23 W/m2K

Our EPS insulation is produced to the requirements of BS EN 13163 Thermal insulation products for Buildings.

Fire information

Our EPS SIP panels are manufactured using a grey Expanded Polystyrene bead with a Class E fire retardant additive. They are then laminated with 11mm OSB3 board, which must comply with reaction to fire Class B for flooring, and fire Class C for walls and ceiling as per EN3501, to create a finished EPS SIP panel.

Moisture properties

Our EPS insulation has a significant resistance to the passage of water vapour, however, our EPS panels will still require a damp proof membrane or vapour control barrier depending on application.
